General Information About Bodrum
Bodrum is a district and a port city in Mugla Province, in the southwestern Aegean Region of Turkey. It is located on the southern coast of Bodrum Peninsula, at a point that checks the entry into the Gulf of Gokova, and is also the center of the eponymous district. The city was called Halicarnassus of Caria in ancient times and was famous for housing the Mausoleum of Mausoleum, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Bodrum Castle, built by the Knights Hospitaller in the 15th century, overlooks the harbor and the marina. The castle grounds include a Museum of Underwater Archaeology and hosts several cultural festivals throughout the year.
The city had a population of 36 317, but in summer time this number becomes twice bigger because of a numerous guests and tourists. The closest airport to the Bodrum is Milas Airport; transfer from there will take approximately 30 minutes.
The most popular public transport alternative is minibus which has an extensive network across the region. Locals call them “dolmus” and use them regularly. These life saver vehicles make it possible to do more than spending all day at the hotel beach and get you around Bodrum Peninsula. They are the keys for your discovery.
Bodrum is a living city. There are people going to work or school on their daily routines so minibus transport is available every day of the year. Demand considerably increases in the peak season so the frequencies and working hours of minibuses.
The numbers of seats in a minibus are limited to 14, but they generally pick more than that. You may have to stand on your feet and this can make your trip a little bit uncomfortable, but luckily it doesn’t take so long.
There are no certain locations such as minibus stops to pick you up or drop you off. You just need to hail and get in.
Nature and beaches
Bodrum is amazing place whit lots of bays and rich nature. Sand or pebble beaches, clear Aegean Sea, comfortable place for sunbathing, excellent climate - humidity in Bodrum does not exceed 50 percent. You can select a resort area that appeals to you the most - it can be Torba, Bitez, Turgutreis or Gumbet.
If you plan to get a holiday with child – the best choice will be Bitez. In this area the best sandy beaches, shallow bay with warm and clear water. The city center is easy to manage from here – it's only seven kilometers away.
If you want privacy and a romantic mood, stay in Turgutreis and Torba. The centuries-old pine trees, palm forests and olive groves, wonderful hotel with excellent service, spectacular views - that's what famous resort area of Turgutreis. A small number of tourists, pristine nature, delicious cuisine, away from the hustle and bustle - all this you will have to stay in hotels in Torba.
If you want parties and memorable stay, choose Gumbet, located three kilometers from the center of Bodrum. Disco till the morning, a lot of entertainment, night swimming, and water sports: windsurfing, motorboats, yachts, surfing - this is only a small part of what awaits you here.
Bodrum has a Mediterranean climate. Here are a few cooler in the summer than at other resorts of Turkey (especially in the Mediterranean). In May and October: + 23 ... +25, from June to September +26 ... +30. At night, 7-8 degrees cooler. Precipitations during this period are virtually eliminated. In summer, the water warms up to +25. The heat is not felt on the coast because of frequent winds.
In winter, the average temperature is +12 ... 14 at night +8 ... 10. Most rain from November to March.
